Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association
P.O. Box 5422
The Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association has established a major presence on our Bay over the past ninety years. That is quite an accomplishment! I want to review with you some of our accomplishments, inform you about the challenges facing us, and ask for your support as we approach the threshold of our second century.
To say that the BBYRA is a dynamic, constantly "on the move" organization is an understatement. Significant numbers of our membership give countless hours throughout the year preparing for the sailing season and then managing the season once it is underway. You have only to glance at our Yearbook or peruse the website to see the many names of our members who give so generously of the time and talent in keeping this the vital, dynamic sailing association we have become. We are constantly seeking to improve.
Countless hours each season are given to keeping our Racing Rules, Sailing Instructions, course configurations, scoring and registration procedures up to date. Over the years we have seen expansion of our racing to include a second racing course. We have also added the Independence Cup for sailors with special needs to our list of US Sailing National Championship events. In 2007 we introduced the Championship of BBYRA Champions Regatta. The inaugural "C of C" was a huge success and we all look forward to it being an annual event. Our active website provides timely communications between the Association and our members.
We have also made a strong commitment to promoting junior sailing. The BBYRA serves as the umbrella organization uniting Junior Sailing Programs within our Association, offering instructional clinics, and coordinating events. Our Race Management and Judges Seminars reinforce our commitment to providing value for our sailing members.
The BBYRA has the good fortune of being custodian and beneficiary of The Edward W. Feirer Memorial Fund (Feirer Fund). The purpose of the Feirer Fund is to help enable skippers "to pursue further competition beyond the BBYRA level" in US Sailing National Championships or US Olympic Qualification Events. The Fund provides reimbursement of registration fees or a portion of those fees to sailors who compete in qualified regattas. The interested reader is referred to the website and Yearbook to read more about the history and rationale of this valuable asset, as well as instructions about how to access this Fund.
As you might imagine, our costs have increased over the years even as we have endeavored to hold the line on increases to our dues and registration fees. It is up to us all to ensure that our sailors continue to have these opportunities open to them. Our goal is to continue to provide excellence in sailing and racing, well beyond our centennial in 2014. Therefore, we are reaching out for your financial support because we feel that you would want to help underwrite the future of our Association.
Please, consider a financial gift to the Feirer Fund or to the general fund of the BBYRA. Gifts may be made in the form of an outright donation or a bequest. (Donation Form)
