Ned Thomson

Ned is a Certified US Sailing Judge and Regional Level Race Officer.

He is a Past Commodore of the Manasquan River Yacht Club and is also a member of the Bay Head and Metedeconk River Yacht Clubs.

Ned has competed in the BBYRA M-Scow and E-Scow fleets and actively races PHRF in Metedeconk and Raritan Yacht Clubs. He has been serving on the BBYRA race committee for more than 15 years.

When not sailing, Ned enjoys flying as a multi-engine private pilot. By profession Ned is an Actuary.

Additionally, Ned currently serves as a New Jersey Assemblyman, representing the 30th district.

Buzz Reynolds

Buzz Reynolds is a member of the Island Heights Yacht Club and competed in his first BBYRA race when he was 12 years old in the M Scow class. In his 55 years of racing on Barnegat Bay he has competed in the M Scow, MC Scow, E Scow, Laser and A Cat classes with numerous championships.

Buzz is a former Collegiate All-American sailor for the University of Notre Dame and has been inducted into the BBYRA Sailing Hall of Fame. He has won the US Sailing Singlehanded North American Championship and competed in the Olympic Finn class for 10 years, finishing 3 rd in the Worlds in 1983, 2 nd in the 1984 Olympic Trials and winning the 1982 Finn North Americans.

He is a Past Commodore of the Island Heights Yacht Club and has been the Regatta Chairman for the Barnegat Bay Junior Olympic Regatta for 25 years. In 1995 he introduced sailing as a new event to the Special Olympics World Games as Regatta chair.

Buzz’s winter-time residence is in Morristown NJ. He continues to work in sales and business development for a world-wide boiler and air pollution control company.

Jean Barclay Mastrangelo

Jean is a lifelong member at BHYC where she serves on the Sailing Committee and is Chair of the Race Committee. She is also a member of Shore Acres Yacht Club. Jean is a US Sailing Certified Race Officer.

Jean has competed in BBYRA Sanderling Fleet as well as other fleets both locally and in Charlotte Harbor FL where she enjoys spending her winter months and is also on the Race Committee at Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club. 

Jean serves on the Board of Directors for the Sailing Foundation of Barnegat Bay. 

When she is not sailing or on the Race Committee Jean is the Sr. Director of Clinical Operations at a Pharmaceutical Company.

Rob Vogel

Rob represents the Seaside Park Yacht Club as a BBYRA Delegate and is a member of the Liaison Committee.

Rob serves as the Fleet Captain for the BBYRA Flying Scots and also races in the MC-Scow fleet.

Professionally, Rob is a wealth manager and was previously Vice President and Treasurer of a major Oil Company.

Rob sees "the essential role that not-for-profits enterprises play in our society". He serves as Chairman of the BlinkNow Foundation, an organization that empowers children in Nepal, is a past board member of the Community Foundation of NJ, and a member of the National Eagle Scout Association.

In his leisure time Rob enjoys woodworking and playing golf.

Patricia Surdovel

Trish is a Past Commodore of the Manasquan River Yacht Club.

She has served as a BBYRA Delegate and is an active member of the BBYRA Race Committee.

Trish has spent many years on the the Green Course Foredeck. Trish has been responsible for signals, flags and wind readings. Additionally, Trish serves on the Manasquan River Race Committee.

Trish races in the summer PHRF Fleet and throughout the winter in the "MRYC Pram" Frostbite series.

She creates internet content for a marketing technology company.

When not working or boating, Trish actively participates in tennis, golf, skiing and stand up paddle boarding.

Dave Magno

Dave has been spent a lifetime sailing on the Bay. He has won 14 BBYRA Championships, and holds a number of National and Regional titles.

Dave has competed in the BBYRA Laser, M-Scow, E-Scow, Flying Scot and MC-Scow Classes.

He has served as Fleet Captain for the E-Scows, and as Regional Measurer for E-Scows and M-Scows.

Dave is also devoted to encouraging the next generation of sailors through the promotion of High School Sailing competition.

When not sailing, Dave is a Civil Engineer and can often be found at the gym "at some ungodly hour" or running the boards.

Dave is a member of the Lavallette and Toms River Yacht Clubs.

Scott Yates

Scott is a Past Commodore of the Toms River Yacht Club. He has served on the BBYRA Green Course Race committee for many years, most notably as a mainstay aboard the Line Boat.

Scott is a US Sailing Certified Race Officer and a Certified Small Boat Handling Instructor.

Scott has been instrumental in coordinating the smooth deployment of the Regatta Equipment necessary for our 10 week series.

Scott is a retired Director of a Major Pharmaceutical Company.

Scott enjoys spending winters in Fort Myers, Florida where he is a member of the Landings Yacht Club, cruising the Coast between Tampa and Key West.
